RED WINE:
Faro DOC 2012 Palari Sicilia
Sicily is the southernmost region in Italy. When we think of Sicily, we think of the sea, the sun, the islands, the majestic Etna vulcano, the food and the culture. We cannot, however, ignore Sicily’s great importance in wine production. The Sicilian territory boasts great grape growing conditions and excellent wines.
Faro DOC comes from Sicily, at the base of Etna, near Messina, on the northeastern side of the island. The name “Faro” pays homage to the lighthouses (Lighthouse = Faro in Italian) along the sea in the Straight of Messina, that have aided fisherman for thousands of years.
This wine has great longevity and lets us taste grape varietals only grown in Sicily: the Nerello Cappuccio, the Nerello Mascalese and a small percentage of other ancient grape varietals once thought lost but found again, such as the Nocera and the Galatena).
Faro DOC’s color leans towards garnet red, thanks in part to its aging process. It has complex perfumes of red fruit, mature fruit, spices and tobacco. It is persistent, balanced and harmonious.
A highly recommended red wine.
Happy tasting!
